Portage RCMP consider last month's holiday check stop program a success.

The number of stops were comparable to previous campaigns, totalling over twelve hundred and netting three impaired drivers.

And although the campaign itself is over, constable Dave Spakowski says motorists shouldn't get too comfortable.  He stresses RCMP will continue to conduct check stops year-round.

Other charges laid include 17 of which were laid for people not wearing seatbelts, and about 90 related to the Highway Traffic Act.  Spakowski links the impaired driving charges to driver invincibility.
