Prairie Players in Portage is preparing for their next production.

Coming off of a successful showing of Steel Magnolias, the community theatre group is hoping for a similar spring production. President Rosa Rawlings says auditions are happening this week.

"Come on down and we will read the script together. The director is Robert Martin and I'm assisting," says Rawlings. "He'll just ask people to read certain characters and then we switch up. So, basically, we just read the whole play, if we can. Lots of fun!"

Steel Magnolias had been cast prior to COVID-19, but some changes took place by the time the show hit the stage in 2021. This will be the first show, start to finish, that is happening since the pandemic.

Rawlings says everyone is welcome to tryout, regardless of experience.

"It's called 'Jack of Diamonds' and it's very, very funny," says Rawlings. "It takes place in a retirement villa so they're all older characters, that are the main characters, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be an older person to come and audition. You can be any age."

She doesn't want to give anything else away and adds, if you want more information, you'll have to be a part of the show!

Auditions are Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Glesby Centre. You're asked to use the green door on the west side. The show will be happening April 27th to the 29th.
