The Portage Islanders have their backs against the wall. The Islanders fell 5-4 last night to the Ste Anne Aces in Game 2 of their semi-final series in the SEMHL playoffs. The Aces now lead the best-of-five series 2-0 and will eliminate the top-ranked Islanders with one more win.

Portage held a 2-0 lead in the first period but Owen Blocker trimmed the lead in half before the first intermission. The Aces then outscored the Islanders 3-1 in the second frame to enter the last period in control.

Tanner Lesann tried to keep Portage alive by tying the game up with under three minutes left to play. Unfortunately for the Islanders, Ste Anne responded within a minute as Blocker's second goal of the game turned out to be the game-winner.

Portage will now need three straight wins to avoid back-to-back years of being the best regular season team, only to be eliminated before the finals. The Islanders season will be on the line tonight at Stride Place in Game 3. Puck drop is set for 7:00.
