The Portage Islanders have yet to give up a goal this season.

The Islanders improved to 2-0 today after taking down the Altona Maroons 6-0 on home ice. Portage has scored 14 goals in their first two games combined and team captain Jens Meilleur says everyone has been chipping in.

"We have a really deep group. We have four lines that can score," Meilleur continues. "Anyone of us can go out there and put it in the net, and that's showing right now."

Meilleur had a four-point game, finding the back of the net twice. Zach Waldvogel dished out assists on the first two goals of the game and found the back of the net in the third, while Brett Brooks, Channing Bresciani, and Riley Hay all had two-point outings.

Steve Christie stopped 21 shots en route to the shutout and Meilleur says he, along with the defence, has been amazing to start the year.

"We have a great D-core and we have a lot of guys that are committed to the D-zone. Steve-o has been unreal," Meilleur explains. "He's making big and timely saves. He's just been great."

The Islanders finished in first place in the standings last season and the team captain believes they can make that happen again in the 2022-23 campaign.

"I don't see why we can't be a top team in the league. We're deep, we play the right way, and we're having fun."

Portage will be back on home ice Saturday as they look to improve to 3-0 against the Carman Beavers.
