Ian MacKenzie has decided not to run again for mayor of Portage la Prairie, after holding the post for eight years, and being on Council for 14.

He'll run for one of six Council seats.

MacKenzie's proud of several achievements during his tenure, but especially working closely with the RM of Portage. He notes when he took office, the two didn't get along, but that's changed, and both have benefited.
MacKenzie points to upgrading Saskatchewan Avenue West, improving River Road, and better recreation opportunities as important issues over the next four years.

He adds the decision to step down wasn't easy.

So far, Ken Brennan is the only candidate for mayor. Earl Porter is the only current councillor who hasn't announced whether he'll stand for re-election.
