The Internal Investigations Unit (IIU) has concluded its investigation involving a Portager who ended up in the hospital.

On May 4th, RCMP advised the IIU of an incident on 11th Street NW in Portage la Prairie. Police told them on May 3rd, they received a call at 10 p.m. When they arrived, a 17-year-old male fled from the scene. As he was fleeing, he tripped and fell. He was taken into custody and then to the Portage General Hospital, where they learned he had broken his leg.

IIU investigators spoke to the male on the phone, and he accepted full responsibility for his leg being broken, as that's considered a major injury to the RCMP.

As the man accepted the responsibility and did not cooperate any further, the civilian director found no reason to continue the investigation.
