Leftovers from the snow and wind on Monday mean roads are icy this morning in and around the city of Portage. Challenging conditions yesterday had people slipping and sliding into ditches in the region and several highways were closed as a result. Although many are still icy, all highways have reopened this morning.
In the city of Portage, many roads are extremely icy and drivers are urged to add a few extra minutes to their drive early today to slow down due to the conditions.
At different points yesterday, stretches of Highway 1, 59 were 75 were all closed due to icy conditions. Because of a trailer sliding into the ditch, the westbound lanes on the bypass just east of Portage were closed for a few hours in the evening while the Trans-Canada was closed from the Saskatchewan border to PTH 21 in both directions. Several stretches of highways 59 and 75 south of Winnipeg were also shut down for some time.

Although all highways are once again open, expect slippery conditions conditions on almost all roads early this morning.
