Thousands of residents in Manitoba are without hydro this morning with the largest area affected being the Southeast portion of the province.

Some residents north of Portage started the day without power. At 5:40 a.m. this morning, the power went out for 372 customers in the Macdonald, Oakland, Delta Beach area. Power was restored to that area around 10 a.m. but as the lights went on there, they went out for 166 customers in between Portage and Oakville. Neither community was affected and the power came back on over the noon hour.

Well over two thousand customers have been affected in the Steinbach area.

Although no official reason for the outages has been given, the heavy wet snow along with some stronger-than-normal winds is the expected cause.

Snow should taper off this morning in the Portage area however the Southeast piece of the province is still under a snowfall warning.
