Portage la Prairie RCMP has arrested a 35-year-old man from Headingley after stealing an item and flashing a weapon in Portage.

The RCMP says on July 14, around 5 a.m. they received a report of a theft and assault with a weapon in the 2400 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West. The suspect is said to have been approached by an employee as he was leaving with an item, which is when he displayed his weapon.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the man a short distance away from the business, where they arrested him without incident. The man has been charged with the following:

Robbery, 

Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, 

Carry a Concealed Weapon, 

Theft Under $5000,

Two counts of Assault with a Weapon

The 35-year-old from Headingley appeared in court on July 15.
