Central Plains Capitals alumnus Carson Buydens has been named the MJHL's 'Rookie of the Month' for November.

This is the second time this season the 17-year-old has been recognized with the honour as he won the award in September as well. Buydens says it's always fulfilling to receive an award like this. He talks about his performance in November.

"I think I played pretty well last month," says Buydens. "I'm just getting more comfortable, now that I've played almost half a season. I can really play my game out there."

Through nine games last month, Buydens put up a goal per contest and added four helpers, totalling 13 points. The Gladstone, Manitoba product has 23 points in 26 games during the season as a whole, which places him third on the Virden Oil Capitals in scoring. Buydens describes what has helped him transition so well to the next level.

"I've learned that you have got to make quick plays. It's a fast game, so if you're slow with the puck and make slow plays, you're going to be left behind," Buydens explains. "You have to be quick and play quickly to be good out there."

Despite the excellent play of Buydens, the Oil Capitals still lost more games than they won in November, going 4-6. He outlines what they have to do to start stringing some wins together.

"I think we just need to be consistent," says Buydens. "If we're consistent, we'll have a solid stretch into the last bit of the season. Everyone is starting to think about the playoffs, and so are we. We're excited for that."

Buydens says his top priority, outside of going for a deep playoff run, is to continue to improve every aspect of his game with each shift he has on the ice. Buydens and the Oil Capitals have one more game in Portage this season, which will take place on January 8.
