Winnipeg isn't off to the start they would've liked for the second half of the Northern League season.

In a defensively sound game, the Goldeyes fell 2-1 at the hands of the Joliet Jackhammers. The Fish opened the scoring in the second inning when Jimmy Hurst scored from second base off a Matt Mann single, off  Joliet starter Luis Villarreal. The Jackhammers responded in the fifth, scoring a pair and from there the pitching staff did the rest shutting down the Winnipeg bats, holding them to just four hits from that point on. Despite a fine performance, that included retiring 13 hitters, Ben Moore suffered the loss and his record now falls to 1-3 this season.

Goldeyes Coach, Steve Maddock, says unfortunately last night Winnipeg's hitting woes continued for the second straight day, adding that with the outing Ben Moore had the Fish had an opportunity to win the ball game, but they just couldn't execute.

Game 2 of the series goes tonight in Winnipeg with a 7:00 o'clock start time.

In other Goldeyes news the Northern League announced its starting and reserve players for the All-Star game taking place next Tuesday with four starters selected from Winnipeg. Catcher Aaron Mendoza will join outfielder Fehlandt Lentini, D.H. Jimmy Hurst, and starting pitcher Josh Beshears on the West Division roster for contest in Kansas City.
