Cattle are starting to make their way to auction, as the fall run gets underway.

Allan Munroe is the owner of Killarney Auction Mart.

"We're starting to pick up some numbers, we're just getting underway. We thought we'd be getting more numbers quicker than this because it's so dry but then we got some rain and they're starting to come to town. We had about 300 cattle more this week than we did a year ago the same week."

He talked about how the cattle are looking.

"I think gains are good this year, as long as they had the quantity of grass in front of them. The quality was better, things always do a little better when it's just a little bit more on the dry side than the wet side...Better quality, just not the quantity."

Munroe noted prices are also on the upswing.

"They're better than what we were expecting. There was certainly a lot of optimism in the spring. We saw a very strong bull run happen then and then as the summer went on, the fat prices started dropping and there was getting to be a little more pessimism in it all. The cattle are starting to move in all directions now and it's starting out far stronger than we were expecting."

Killarney Auction Mart holds auctions every Monday.
