The Canada Senior Games being held this week in Portage is expected to be the largest installment since it was first held ten years ago.

This, according to association president Gary black.

He links the popularity to an increasing trend of participants felt throughout the country.  There's 44 participants from the Northwest Territories alone this year compared to one in 1998.

Black predicts Portage businesses won't be fully prepared for the economic impact headed their way, even though it's expected.  He recalls the 2004 games in Whitehorse where the community was left two million dollars richer.

Although he admits this impact is beneficial, Black stresses promoting active living is his main focus.
