The U19 AAA Central Energy wrapped up their regular season in Portage this weekend. The softball team didn't end the season the way they wanted to, with a pair of losses coming in their final double-header.

Infielder Jolyne LeClair says they only had half of the team in attendance due to many players being with Team Manitoba this weekend. Regardless, the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes product says they are going to have to play at their absolute best when provincials begin on Friday.

"We have to dig down deep when we go into provincials," LeClair explains. "Our season did go pretty well, as we only lost these final two games, but that doesn't really matter at this point as provincials is a clean slate. Our Team Manitoba girls are coming back too, so I think we'll compete very well."

LeClair believes it says quite a bit about their team culture, knowing they were able to compete against a good team with more than half the roster consisting of call-ups.

Throughout the regular season as a whole, the Energy were dominant. The squad finished the season with a 10-2 record and a +85 run differential and only gave up a total of 40 runs all season (19 of those were given up in the final two outings).

For anyone yet to see the team in action, LeClair describes their play style.

"Very competitive," says LeClair. "We like to score a lot of runs, and we get on the bats easy. Our defence is very strong too this year, which is nice. Our pitching is quite strong too."

Portage is the home of the U19 AAA Softball Provincials this year, which will see three days of extremely high-level action on the diamond. LeClair outlines what she is most looking forward to.

"I'm excited because this is my last provincials. We have a good squad this year, so I'm excited to take the field with them," LeClair continues. "I'm pumped because this might be the year we actually win it all. I'll need to get on the sticks to help the team score some runs."

U19 AAA Softball Provincials start Friday afternoon at Rotary Republic of Manitobah Park. A full schedule will be available in the coming days.
