Elizabeth Rose Owsiak

 

Peacefully, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Elizabeth Owsiak, beloved wife of the late Andrew Owsiak, passed away at the age of 101 years at the Lions Prairie Manor.

Elizabeth was born on September 8, 1921, daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Panka in Pecs, Hungary, where she was raised and received her education. After she completed her education, she taught kindergarten. In 1946 she married Andrew Owsiak and in 1951 they immigrated to Canada with their two daughters Susan and Mary. The family settled in Amaranth, Manitoba where they farmed for seventeen years before moving to Portage la Prairie in 1968. Here she was employed at the Manitoba Developmental Centre until 1974. She then became employed at the Lions Prairie Manor until her retirement in 1979.

Elizabeth was a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed growing flowers and gardening. She excelled as a cook and enjoyed baking for her family and church. Her special times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud.

Predeceased by her husband Andrew Owsiak, daughter Carol Wishart and two brothers Mike and Gaza both of Hungary.

Elizabeth leaves to mourn her passing her children; Susan Maxemuck and husband Alex, grandson Christopher Maxemuck, daughter Mary Yacucha and husband Larry, granddaughters Jamie and Tanya, son Andrew Owsiak and wife Vicky, and grandchildren Andrew and Jennifer, daughter Julie Gilchrist and grandsons Garret and Jonathan, daughter Bev Bain and husband Ed, and grandson Carson, son-in-law Robert Wishart, and grandchildren Jeff and Andrea.

Also left to cherish her memory are her great-grandchildren; Emily, Keegan, Daniel, Mackenzie, Joey, Hunter and Amaya. Along with several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lions Prairie Manor, 24 - 9th St. SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3V4.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Good Shepherd Church, 1125 Sask. Ave. E., Portage la Prairie. Internment to follow service at Hillside Cemetery.

Dear Mom & Grandma, Rest in Peace as you reunite with Dad and Carol.

Greatly missed by all who knew this loving and caring lady.
