Be prepared for mother nature to throw an uppercut this weekend, as Portage la Prairie expects to see its fair share of precipitation.

Janelle Gergely, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), says there is a storm tracking through Alberta Friday, which is set to hit Manitoba on Saturday.

"Saturday morning, we're going to see some snowfall move in, and at the same time, winds are going to pick up. We're going to see gusts around 50 kilometres an hour, and that's going to help to blow that snow around."

The meteorologist highlights that there will be much better days than this Saturday for travel, with 10 to 15 centimetres expected for the Portage area.

"That weather system does pull out Saturday overnight into Sunday, so Sunday is looking like it's going to be clear."

Gergely adds that if you're planning on driving on the weekend, check highway conditions before travelling.

"One thing is that it's going to be fairly warm as that snow is falling on Saturday. We're forecasting a high of -4, and the winds we are expecting might inhibit some blowing snow."
