Canadian Country Music Association Award winners and Juno-nominated band Doc Walker is coming back to Portage la Prairie to put on a show for a great cause.

It's a virtual concert being put on by Prairie Fusion Arts and Entertainment. Executive director Stefanie McKim says she's excited to announce this.

"It's going to be on Thursday, June 3rd at 7 p.m., and it's going to be live-streamed virtually," says McKim. "This is super exciting because normally, May is when we do our annual gala and art auction. Obviously, with restrictions, that's not something we can do, and we wanted to step outside of the box and bring something to people that is going to excite them."

The band from nearby Westbourne, Manitoba has nine albums released, with the most recent in 2017. McKim says the Glesby Theatre venue hasn't gotten the use it should because of the pandemic, and Doc Walker hasn't been able to tour, so it's a great match.

"It's been a challenging year, full of lots of ups and downs, so fundraising is integral to Prairie Fusion. We are a nonprofit, we're a charitable organization, and the arts have taken a really big hit this year," says McKim. "We're looking forward to seeing a positive response from the community on this concert. Tickets are $25, and that's per household, so that's per email address."

Virtual tickets are available for the show on Prairie Fusion's website. McKim notes it'll be a lot like its Safe At Home concert series.

"The band will be performing their acoustic set in the Glesby Center Theatre. We'll have four cameras going and a professional sound technician," says McKim. "We will have the switcher board going so we can seamlessly switch between all four camera angles, which is kind of cool because instead of a static shot, it does bring it to life."
