Cashing government cheques will soon be more convenient for Dakota Tipi First Nation.

First People's Financial has agreed to provide them a debit card August 2nd, which will allow access to social assistance money from the government directly deposited into member accounts.

Chief Cornell Pasche plans on sharing the concept with other first nations during an upcoming national chiefs conference.

The debit card means the first nation won't have to travel to urban centres and provide both identification and documentation when cashing their cheques.  Pasche feels it'll also bring economical benefits, as the money is kept local and isn't subject to hefty cuts associated with payday loan stores.
