David Fredrick Cook

1946 - 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Fredrick Cook at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 75 years. He passed away peacefully with family by his side.

David is predeceased by his parents, Harold & Shirley Cook, his wife Gordene and his brothers-in-law, Ken Swain, Roy Freeman, Greg Bray & Brett Bray.

Dave is survived by his sisters Joan Swain, Linda Freeman and Faye Cook, his children Pamela (Jason) McKelvy and Randy Cook (Ashley Bee), his grandchildren Declan & Keegan McKelvy, Emma & Riley Cook, as well as nieces and nephews.

Dave was born December 8th, 1946 in Carmen, MB. He grew up in Rosebank until 1963 when the family moved to Portage. There he finished high school and met his future wife, Gordene Bray. The two were married in Portage on May 30th, 1970. After their marriage, they moved to Tyndall for a year and then to Gimil until 1984. They had 2 children and later moved to MacGregor, where David lived out the last of his days.

David worked for Manitoba Hydro straight out of high school. He started his career as a lineman and at the end of his 41.5 year career, he retired as District Supervisor. He was known as an extremely hard worker and quite the handy man. He really enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He spent a lot of his spare time working in his workshop, hunting, fishing, camping, having a rum & coke with his friends at the “Friday sessions”, and watching NASCAR.

During his years in Gimli and MacGregor, Dave was a volunteer firefighter. He was also a member of MacGregor Lion’s Club.

A Celebration of Life is being held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 30th, at the Heartland Multiplex in MacGregor, MB. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North Norfolk Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
