The RCMP had to deal with a lot more calls regarding theft in September of 2022.

The Manitoba RCMP released their crime stats for the month, which compares September 2022 to September 2021. The West District, which includes Portage la Prairie, saw an overall increase of four per cent, from 4,821 to 5,862.

Crimes against Property saw a 33 per cent increase, from 720 to 961. Possession of Stolen goods reports jumped dramatically, from 20 to 48, for a 140 per cent increase. The most notable decrease came from Arson calls, which only fell by one call, from 15 to 14.

 In the Common Police Activities category, calls went up by 11 per cent, from 650 to 724. Suspicious Person/Vehicle/Property calls jumped by 51 per cent, from 248 to 375. The largest decrease came from Person Reported Missing reports, which fell 31 per cent, from 86 to 59.

Crimes against Person calls dropped by 19 per cent, from 410 to 332. Assaults were the most notable decline, down 23 per cent, from 251 to 193. The biggest jump came from Sexual Assault calls, which rose 21 per cent, from 19 to 23.

Drug enforcement calls fell by 25 per cent, from 60 to 45.
