The Portage Collegiate Trojans' year has come to an end. The Zone 4 Baseball League Champions were defeated in the semi-final of the Manitoba Baseball Provincials 8-4 at the hands of the Stonewall Rams.

The Trojans won both of their games in the round-robin and took down the Vincent Massey Vikings in the first elimination round to get to that point. Head coach Cam Asham says, in the semi-final, CJ Koss and Maddox Shindle played well on the mound and adds Alex Van Deynze hit a solo home run and picked up half of their runs in the affair.

The coach says despite the loss, they still have a lot to be proud of.

"It's never the best to lose, but we talked after the game about how far we came and how much we accomplished," Asham explains. "Being top four in the province, was definitely something to be proud of for this group."

Asham notes two of the Trojans' were recognized for their stellar performance throughout the tournament.

"We had a couple of All-Star selections in Jace Boychuk and CJ Koss," says Asham. "They were both tournament All-Stars, so that was a nice accomplishment for those two."

The coach adds they will have seven returning players next season, which makes him very optimistic for the program going forward.

"We're looking forward to having the guys back that are eligible next year. We always look forward to bringing in the younger guys too," Asham continues. "That's the nature of high school sports, you lose your Grade 12s but then you start to get new guys into your program."
