With the Holiday season in the rearview mirror for most, it's officially that time of the year when the City of Portage la Prairie accepts recycled Christmas trees.

The city outlines that trees may be placed on the boulevard in front of your home and will be picked up between today, January 3rd and January 23rd.

They note that you can also drop your tree off at the burn site behind St Mary's Cemetery, from 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.

Public Works Manager Brian Taylor explains that this program has been going on in the city for nearly 30 years.

Taylor notes that wood chips are made from these trees for community gardens and whatever else the city may need.

The Public Works Manager adds that they will try and pick up the tree during your garbage day; however, if that isn't the case, don't worry, they will be back for your tree another day.
