Dakota Tipi First Nation Chief Cornell Pashe joined other Dakota chiefs in Brandon last week, to meet former federal cabinet minister Bill McKnight.

He's been charged with sorting out the Dakota nations' land claims, since they're not covered by treaties.

Pashe spoke on the lack of housing in his community, and made presentations on three parcels of land, with recommendations for the Indian Affairs minister. He discussed the residential land base they require, lots already available, and another lot near the community.

The next meeting with McKnight is September 18th, when the Dakota nations will submit written recommendations.

Pashe notes housing is a serious issue on Dakota Tipi, with the population growing from 242 to 294. He calls last week's preliminary meeting positive.
