Last night's Portage la Prairie City Hall Council meeting included discussion on the proposed Central Park at 5th Avenue NW and 3rd Avenue NW.

Brent Budz"I did have some concerns with regards to necessarily fully understanding the City's commitment financially," says Brent Budz, City Councillor. "I know that there have been several comments made that we're in the infancy. My stance is merely from the standpoint of understanding what the city may have to look at for operating costs in the future or potential capitals."

Budz says the plan's in its very earliest stages, and it will take much time and finances. He adds they also have to determine what money would be raised privately as well as what, if anything, could be provided by the city.

The location was approved to be called Central Park.  The Portage Parks Committee was approved to hold a public consultation meeting on September 20, 2017, at the William Glesby Centre for the purpose of prioritizing the various park components outlined in the Framework Plan. The Parks Committee was also granted approval to carry on with a fund-raising program to develop the park.
