The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between June 24 and June 30. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.

On June 25, just before 10:00 p.m., Portage RCMP were called to an address in the 2300 block of Sissons Drive for an unwanted person. 

Police arrived and located a 30-year-old man from Brandon whom was breaching three counts of his release order and placed under arrest. 

The man was held and appeared in court the following day.


At around 6:20 p.m. on June 29, Portage RCMP received a dispatch of a break and enter into a garage on the 100 block of 5th Street SE in Portage. 

Officers attended but the suspect had already left the scene. A good description given by a witness provided the means for the officers to locate the 34-year-old suspect a short distance away. 

Redmond Racette is charged with Break and Enter and was remanded to appear in court on July 2.


Calls for police service totalled 301, which is a decrease from the 306 calls the previous week.

Under Traffic Violations, there were 49 Highway Traffic Act reports, 5 reports of Vehicle Collisions and 3 reports of Impaired Drivers. 

Crimes Against Person reports included 8 Assaults, 8 Assaults with a Weapon, as well as 4 reports of Uttering Threats. 

Crimes Against Property detailed 23 Thefts, 4 Thefts of a Motor Vehicle, 8 reports of Breaking and Entering and 22 calls regarding Mischief. 

Other statistics included 39 calls for Other Criminal Investigations and 81 for "Other Police Activity," meaning False Alarms, Suspicious People or Vehicles, and Assistance Given. 

The day that saw the most action from the RCMP was Friday, June 28, which included 52 calls for service.
