A constable from the Portage RCMP feels supervision is often overlooked when all terrain vehicles are used by youth.

Dave Spakowski identifies several accidents involving youth in rural areas over the last week.

Most recently was an accident over the weekend involving a 15 year old boy, which justifies Spakowski's concern.  Spakowski stresses many ATV-related youth fatalities are preventable.

He adds the vehicles are usually underestimated, and says there's more skill required in riding them than what meets the eye.  That's why Spakowski is in favor of completion of a training course before youth are able to ride.
