Manitoba's Agricultural Sector is demanding the provincial government overturn its moratorium on hog barn construction and expansion.
Manitoba Pork Council, Keystone Agricultural Producers, and the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce made the call this morning.
Council Chairman Karl Kynoch says the implications of the ban are huge pointing to a similar ban implemented in Quebec in June 2002.
It was touted as a temporary pause as well, but eventually became permanent and has cause irreparable damage to the industry.
Kynoch has also called on the clean environment commission to finish its review of the hog sector no later than May 1st, 2007.
It's estimated if the ban was in place for a year it would cost the industry $25 million.
