Can-Oat Milling has grown, with the acquisition of a milling plant in Barrhead, Alberta.

It'll produce 25,000 tonnes of finished product a year, and means a lot for the entire company, including the Portage la Prairie plants.

President Karl Gerrand points out it's an organic facility, so they're able to enter that market immediately. He thinks those markets are along the west coast, as well as offshore.

Gerrand adds the last 6 to 8 months have been exciting, as new opportunities for employees have opened up.

He notes the oat industry's dynamics are shifting toward a focus on healthier lifestyles, and Can-Oat is well-positioned to grow into that.
