A short and sweet thunderstorm hit Portage la Prairie Wednesday night before a thick fog covered the city Thursday morning.

Bright flashes in the sky were seen around 5:30 p.m. with the storm still being reported into the 7 p.m. hour. Wind was recorded from the northwest in the mid-20s, while gusting to just over 30 kilometres per hour. 

Around the region, hail was reported in Gainsborough, MacGregor and southeast in Portage. Flash flooding was seen in St. Rose as the rain came down quickly.

Early Thursday morning, a thick fog was over Portage la Prairie, reducing visibility to 0.6 kilometres around 6 a.m. By 8 a.m., fog was still seen in low-laying areas.

Thursday will be sunny late this morning, becoming more of a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. As of now, there is no more precipitation in the forecast for the next week. You can see the latest forecast for Portage la Prairie here.
