Over the last six months, Portage la Prairie has seen a tremendous transformation to one of the city's apartment buildings.

19-5th Street NW has been turned into 11 modern apartments after previously being a problematic building for the community.

"This apartment block for years has been nothing but trouble," says Al, a nearby neighbour on 5th. "Constant visits by the RCMP almost daily, if not every second day by the Portage Fire Department. False alarms, stuff like that. It was a mess, just garbage everywhere, very unkept."

Al took time to thank Bryce and Leann Taylor, the two responsible for buying and renovating the building.

"It just upped the value of our property, and that was our biggest concern for years. When we go to sell our property, no one wants to live next door to... Let's call it a garbage dump."

Al describes the transformation as unbelievable.

"It is just amazing with what they have done. The layouts are great, the colours are amazing, and the quality of the product that they have put into it, it's top-notch. You would think it's a brand new building."

Crystal Hart of Turnkey Property Management spoke to PortageOnline at an open house event for the renovated apartments, saying this was a big undertaking.

"The neighbours have been really positive on the street and really encouraging. I think they were just so happy to see someone really turning this building into something beautiful."

Hart shares that Turnkey personally invited everyone on this block over to the newly renovated site to thank them for the patience.

"I think everyone remembers what this apartment building looked like with broken windows and fire damage and all those things, but I think as soon as people walk in here, they kind of forget about that."

Hart notes that she wants to thank everyone in the community for being so positive.

"We've had people knock on the door, just saying it looks great, saying they love what we're doing. Turnkey Property Management is a big believer in everyone having a safe, clean place to live."
