The Portage la Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce is holding its first in-person State of the City/RM Address in two years, and it should be interesting.  With the west-end development and overpass being constructed this year, businesses will be filled in on what the municipalities are doing to assist local businesses, among other plans.

Chamber executive director Cindy McDonald says they started the annual event about six years ago.

"It's something we like to offer to our members," says McDonald. "It's the opportunity to hear from the leadership of the City and the RM on the progress and growth of our communities. It's a great opportunity for our members to ask questions, as well."

She notes a virtual meeting was held in the last two years, and they didn't skip a beat despite the pandemic.

"We did offer that virtually and we're really excited to be able to be in person again on June 16th," continues McDonald. "There's so much going on in the RM and in the City that I think it's going to be a really, really good opportunity to hear about all the different growth and the future."

She notes the Chamber members are invited as well as non-chamber members.

"They just have a different price point on their tickets, " adds McDonald. "But anybody is invited to come. It's a great opportunity to ask questions, and we take questions from the floor. So, any questions you might have for the City or the RM, this is a really good opportunity. Plus, for the chamber, we'll be asking them lots of different questions from the chamber's perspective."

McDonald adds there's always a surprise that is unveiled at these meetings.
