The new principal at Austin Elementary School's looking forward to her new role. She was named to the position after it was announced Kyle McKinstry would be taking over as principal at Macgregor Collegiate Institute. She's been at the school for 15 years, serving as a Grade 1 teacher, Grade 2 teacher, mixed class teacher, reading recovery support staff, and resource teacher. She says it's an honour to be taking on a leadership role, noting she's looking forward to it.

"It's good. It's an honour to be taking over the this role at the school. We have a good staff and I'm looking forward to working with everybody. I think our roles will have all changed slightly, but I think we'll all be able to work together very well."

Young says she's looking forward to continuing progress on what's been taking place at the school, while also making some changes to the way things are done. It's not just 15 years of experience at the elementary school she'll be bringing to the position. Young explains that her combination of experiences will be beneficial, as she prepares to lead the school into the future.

"I think I have a wide range of experiences now. I started teaching in northern Manitoba for a number of years before I came here. I think the experiences I've had over the last more than 20 years will benefit me in the office and helping teachers in their classrooms."

She says preparations for the upcoming school year have been going well, with the classrooms almost ready for the kids' return. Young notes she's excited about the new school year, which begins September 7th.
