The severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Portage la Prairie and the surrounding area.

Most of southern Manitoba is still under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Weather 'Watches' are issued when conditions are favourable for severe weather, which could cause safety concerns. Once meteorologists have a better idea of the path and strength of a storm, they may upgrade the watch to a 'Warning'. However, Warning's tend to be issued only when severe weather is occurring, or imminent.

Squalls with wind gusts up to 45 knots, hail of 2 to 4 centimetres and poor to very poor visibility in thunderstorms heavy at times are expected or occurring around Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipegosis, and the south basin of Lake Winnipeg this evening. Strong wind gusts to 45 knots are likely from these cells over the next few hours.
