If you were thinking about spending some time outdoors this afternoon, a change of plans may be in order. That's according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang, as severe thunderstorm watches and warnings come into effect across southern Manitoba. She notes the system bringing these storms has already passed through Saskatchewan, and could bring some fairly significant weather.

"Some of the dangerous aspects we're looking at for these types of storms today are large hail, heavy rains, and strong winds. When this system went through Saskatchewan we had a number of strong winds reported, and some damage associated with that. As well, with thunderstorms we always warn that the lightning is one of the dangerous aspects of these storms."

She notes while the storm has yet to start, you can definitely feel the start of something due to the high humidity throughout the region. Lang anticipates the storm will arrive in the not too distant future, and will remain in the area for most of the day.

"It looks like storms will start developing this afternoon, as the peak heating gets going. These things tend to, once they get going, last throughout the day and into the evening. People should always be prepared and be on the lookout for them."

She advises you to pay close attention to weather forecasts, in order to keep tabs on the situation. For those who were hoping to be outdoors, Lang says postponing your activities would be the best decision.
