Some Portage la Prairie residents will have to wait a while longer to receive their third quarter water bills.

The conversion to new water meter readers this year has run into software compatibility issues, which has meant third quarter bills haven't been sent.

Waterworks Committee Chair Wayne Wall hoped those bills would have gone out this week, for Areas 1 and 3.

"Which is the area south of the (Saskatchewan) Avenue, and the area north of the tracks. So the bills that normally would have been out September 6 and October 18, are not out. We're working on it, we think we've identified the problem, we're just making sure that when those bills do go out they're going to be right this time."

Wall says he's frustrated at the long delay.

"And so are the staff at City Hall. It's been a long time. We want to get this thing fixed, and carry on with life as normal."

Wall won't speculate on when the issue will be resolved.

"I thought I did last time. I gave some indication of how long it was going to be. This time, I'm not going to say. When they're right, we'll send them out."

In the meantime, Wall recommends making a payment now, so you don't see a big bill later.
