100 years ago this coming May a battle was fought at Vimy Ridge, France, during World War I. 19 Portage Army Cadets Captain Terrence Henry says some Portage cadets are going to be there for the centennial.

Capt. Terrence Henry"So, 19 Portage Army Cadets is planning a trip to Vimy Ridge in the 2nd of May during the 100th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge. We're going to follow the same route that the troops took. So, we're going to leave here in Canada through Toronto and over through to England. Then we're going to jump across to get over to Paris through Normandy, and then eventually get to Vimy."

Henry outlines their journey.

"We'll go see the monument, go see the battle field, and go see the trenches. And then again back to Paris and a couple of days in Paris before we fly back home. Even the route we're going we're following the same route that young soldiers from Canada took to get there. "

He notes who's making the trip

"Four cadets from Portage. Portage also has a satellite cadet corp that we call 19 Bravo down in Notre Dame -- ten of their cadets that we have as well. So, altogether we'll send 14 of our cadets."

Henry explains how you can help them get there.

"For Portage, folks might see some fund raising campaigns going on. And we just hope that the good citizens of Portage can help us in any possible way they can to get there. There are a few a garage sales coming up. We've got some cash calendar fundraisers. So, if you see some cadets approach you hoping to do some fundraising, and you have a few extra dollars, we'd be more than happy for you to help us on our way."
