Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating after several homes in the Willow Bay area of the city were damaged last week.

Police say in a release, at least three calls were received of homes being spray painted, and vehicles damaged in attempts to steal them last Thursday overnight. Investigators are reviewing evidence left behind by suspects in hopes of identifying them. RCMP Const. Sean O'Keefe says anyone with any information about the incidents should contact police.

"Damage to property crimes cause people a lot of grief. They're kind of a faceless crime, but it's still someone's property that has to be repaired or replaced," Const. O'Keefe says. "Someone is getting hurt as a result of this. Either in their pocketbooks, or causing insurance rates to increase."

Mounties say in addition to these incidents, they've been responding to increasing number of home-eggings recently -- particularly in Portage's north end.

"If you do see something suspicious, we always want to have a good description of the person involved, whether it's the suspect's appearance or a vehicle they may be escaping in," O'Keefe explains. "Getting an accurate description and getting it to police shortly after, can help us locate those suspects that much quicker, and it goes a long way in identifying them."

Police ask anyone with information regarding these incidents contact their local police detachment. Anonymous tips can be made through Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
