The Portage Plains United Way took the time to reflect on the past year at their annual general meeting Wednesday night. President Sherilyn Knox says they had a lot of positive things to talk.

"We had a great 2015 and we took the time to reflect on that last night. A couple of those things were hiring our new executive director Mandy Dubois who has been a great asset to the organization. We also surpassed our 2015 campaign goal by well over $10,000. "

Knox says they are going into 2016 with no major changes to their board.

"It's really important to have community minded individuals who understand the goals we want to achieve. That's something we are looking at doing in 2016 is developing a really strong strategic plan to help us move forward in what we want to do."

She explains they already have the ball rolling on a number of fundraiser and event for this year.

"We have our Home and Away raffle that we partner with Rotary on. That is going to start at the beginning of May again and that was a great success last year. We'll have our Hotdog's and Harley's, that will be in June this year and then another one we are looking to build this year is our golf tournament. We've scheduled that for August 12th which is a Friday. We are hoping to get a lot of people and business out to have a good time. "

Knox says it was great to see the community support their events and fundraiser last year, and hopes to see that support come through this year as well.
