The Portage Plains United Way Golf Tournament is a week from today, and there's still some room to join the fun.

Executive Director Mandy Dubois says it's at the Portage Golf Club and speaks to the importance of the event.

"It is yes. It's one of our bigger one's each year. We call it an annual golf tournament, we've kind of been moving it around September, May, August now, trying to find out niche, but each year it's one of our larger fundraisers. With your registration you get 18 holes of golf, supper, a prize, and supporting the United Way."

Dubois says they're really trying to make it a fun time for all types of golfers.

"That's one thing we're really focusing on is the experience at the golf tournament. Whether you're an experienced golfer -- or an amateur like myself -- you're probably guaranteed to have fun. So we have prizes and activities set up almost at every hole, and prizes for good golfers and prizes for not so good golfers. There's something for everybody, and all the money from the golf tournament goes toward United Way and supporting our community."

She doesn't feel they'll have any trouble filling the final few of spots.

"We're doing really good, we're just about at a 4-some at every hole. So we're really excited about that. This is one of our better turnout's, but we had a really lofty goal, so we'd like to get some more golfers to come out and take part because we've seen such good support from the community. We have a hole sponsor at all 18 holes, and we've had a lot of prizes donated to us. So the community has really stepped up."
