$250 was donated to Portage's Big Brothers Big Sisters by the Woman of Excellence for 2016.

Recreation Opportunities for Kids executive director Lynn Parker had the honour.

"When I was awarded the Woman of Excellence Award, with that came the opportunity to donate $250 to a charity of my choice. So, I chose Big Brothers Big Sisters because of all the wonderful work they do in our community."

Big Brothers Big Sisters executive director Dawn Froese was there to receive the cheque.

"It's wonderful. It's going to be used toward mentoring kids in our community. And Lynn has been a mentor over the years, and it was a surprise and a wonderful gift. She is a woman of excellence."

Portage Chamber of Commerce executive director Cindy McDonald adds, "The Woman of Excellence award was awarded to Lynn Parker at the Women in Business Ungala in March. She was the Woman chosen by the committee, which is the Portage Chamber, the Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre, Portage Community Revitalization Corporation and The Military Families Service Centre. We are happy and proud to give the award to Lynn because she's very deserving, and to offer her the $250 to the charity of her choice, to Big Brother Big Sisters which is very , "
