The weather in southeastern Manitoba has been favorable for the formation of tornados this summer. Storm chaser and meteorologist Scott Kehler says we are seeing a few more tornados this year in southern Manitoba than we have in the past few years. Kehler notes the average number of tornados each year is ten and so far this summer we're at fourteen. He adds tornados are most common in June and July and this year they've arrived in July and August. He adds humidity is the driving force behind all thunderstorms, and when a storm develops the humidity is carried up into the atmosphere and condenses into the storm clouds we see. Kehler notes if a tornado approaches, the safest place is the lowest level of your home or a small interior room of your house away from doors and windows.
