Registration is still open for the Canadian Cancer Society's 4th annual street hockey tournament in Portage.

Community Coordinator Jennifer Roy says "Stick It To Cancer" will take place Saturday, October first, in the west parking lot at the PCU Centre. Roy notes they have two divisions, with the junior division for kids aged ten to fourteen years and the senior division for anyone age fifteen and up. She says last year they had sixteen teams participate, with the ball dropping at nine a.m. and play continuing right through until five o'clock.

Roy adds the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society is to eradicate cancer but they also want to enhance the well-being of those living with the disease, so some of the funds raised by these events go toward cancer awareness and research. She says last year the street hockey tournament in Portage raised close to ten thousand dollars, noting most of the funds raised at this event do stay within Manitoba.

Roy says everyone is looking forward to a lot of fun on October first, adding it's not a competitive day but a chance to get out and play a good family round of street hockey. If you'd like to register a team, you can call 204 871-6241 or send an email to jroy@mb.cancer.ca. Roy adds you can also check out their Facebook page for more information.
