Volunteers with the Dufferin Historical Museum have come up with a way to locally commemorate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.

Spokesperson Trish Aubin explains that a project has been launched to collect 150 stories from people in the community of their time in Carman.

"There's stories out there but there's nothing that's really recorded, and these stories are just disappearing and we want to preserve those memories for the future."

The hope is to compile a book with these memories/stories and have it available for purchase by 150th celebrations in July 2017.

Aubin adds the committee is looking for a variety of stories ranging from memories with friends and family, the history of a family business or tales that have been passed down through the generations.

"There are tonnes of memories, you get people talking and it just kind of domino effects from there and somebody remembers something and somebody else remembers something else and it just goes on and on and on."

People with a story to tell can email it to info@dufferinhistoricalmuseum.ca or call Shirley Snider at 204-828-3564 or Trish Aubin at 204-745-6790. Short stories can also be dropped at the Museum between 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
