The Town of Stonewall commissioned a compilation of information containing town standards for design and construction. It's for developers to consult when working on projects in the community.

Lockie McLean Mayor Lockie McLean says they formerly relied on engineers to provide developers with the required information.

"This is new ground. When developers come to Stonewall, we didn't have all the design standards that we want them to live up to. Now, that's in terms of a developer coming in, he's putting in sewer and water, and manhole covers, and sidewalks, and all that infrastructure. We didn't have an exact criteria to give out to the developer and say, 'Here's what the Stonewall's exact standards are.' "

McLean adds W.S.P. Engineering out of Winnipeg compiled the information.

"What we've done is we've gone out to try to come up with a black and white policy for people. When they come into town, whether it be a developer, doesn't matter what scale, we can say, 'Here it is. If you're putting in this type of infrastructure, you're going to need this type of infrastructure investment to support it.' "

He adds it's quite technically detailed, and they've scheduled representatives from W.S.P. to come out and help them become familiar with it. McLean says it helps everything to be above ground so developers know exactly what investments are required for any particular project. He notes, in retrospect, it's amazing they did without it for so long.
