While the area is known for its camping opportunities, it seems more and more people are considering more permanent seasonal stays at Steep Rock. The RM of Grahamdale has been selling off lots to developers to create cottages, and Reeve Clifford Halaburda says there has been a mixed response.

"Some are moving, some aren't, like anything else. It's like a used car lot, some days its good and some days it isn't. It's slowly moving forward. Everything takes time. People are coming and looking at it, some buy, some don't."

The Steep Rock area has been a focus for the municipality in recent years, as they cleaned up from the 2011 and 2014 floods, and aimed to improve the overall atmosphere of the site. With cottage lots now being sold, Halaburda says they're excited for the future of that region, given the opportunity to grow the municipality.

"The more lots that are sold and developed, it's all part of the tax base we work off. Within that area, it has been a great tax base for us, ever since development started in the last five or six years. With new developments you get a better tax base, so that's what this is all about."

Steep Rock has been a hot topic at Grahamdale Council's meetings in the last few years, as residents clean up the area, and the proposal of a breakwater was also put forward.
