Cottonwood Campground in Treherne is ready for summer!

Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne Reeve Craig Spencer says there was a lot of work put into the campground to get it ready for 2016 and he explains some of the improvements.

"We've created a new walking path from the campground to the pool so that the young kids don't have to go on the road to get to the pool and we're very pleased about that. We also added new washrooms and new showers in 2015 and as of May 1st of this year we're starting our new online reservation system. We even bought a new log splitter because we provide free firewood at Cottonwood Campground."

Spencer comments on the importance of the campground to the town.

"The campground makes our community vibrant. It basically increases the population of Treherne by 50% during the summer season. Those folks that come here usually spend a few dollars so businesses benefit from it, activities benefit from it; our own local people can enjoy the programming that the aquatic centre provides. Many of the older folks have their grandchildren come out of Winnipeg or Brandon to stay a week at their grandparents and take swimming lessons at the aquatic centre, so it's a real plus to our community."

He explains how the campground continues to be successful.

"Our philosophy as a council is that the money that's earned by the campground should go back into it and we've largely done that and will continue to do that. We do that so the hundreds of people in our area and throughout Manitoba can continue to enjoy this little campground stuck beside the Treherne aquatic centre in the summertime. We applaud all the volunteers and so forth and we'll continue to support them."
