September call stats are in for STARS Air Ambulance in Manitoba. Flight paramedic Ray Rempel says it was busy month for crews as they responded to fifty-five calls during that month and notes nearly half of the calls, twenty-five, were for south central Manitoba.

Motor vehicle collisions accounted for seven calls for service, two were ATV related, ten were in regard to medical emergencies and six calls were related to traumatic injuries.

"Some of this is just thanks in-part to partners in the rural healthcare system as the program is just being integrated into the system a lot more," explains Rempel. He adds however, the high call volume also relates to the busyness and activities of Manitobans during the summer.

Meantime, Rempel adds snow will be falling in southern Manitoba shortly and will create unpredictable road conditions. He reminds motorists to adjust speed and allow for more driving time in these situations. He says installing winter tires on your vehicle is also another effective safety precaution.
