The RM of Coldwell Council's passed its 2016 budget.

Reeve Brian Sigfusson says there's a tax increase of about 1%.

"So we've only had a small increase because our assessment is up, so well backed our mill rate down. But we still had an increase -- our school (levy) was 2.3% or 2.4% -- we're up a little bit, but not very much in general."

Sigfusson says calls the impact of re-assessment back and forth, when it comes to farmland.

"Depending where it is on the farmland. Some of it went down, but I think more went up, than down. But I think they have to be a little more cooperative along the lake, or wherever the water's been high, they're going to have to back off some of that assessment because these guys can't pay that kind of taxes on land that isn't being used, due to the flood."

Sigfusson admits he would have liked to see taxes rise a bit, so they could put a little more into reserves, as a hedge against future budget issues. However, he says 1% is what they approved, and they'll live with that.
