The Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone's gravel tender's been granted for a two-year contract for the largest part of its annual budget. Mayor David Single outlines the figures.

"We spend close to a million dollars on gravel. In fact, I think the total is over a million. So, this is just for the hauling of the gravel. We had four tenders in and we awarded the tender to Gladstone Transfer for $16.99 a cubic yard, and it's approximately 40,000 yards. By the time we pay for the gravel, all of that is well over a million."

He explains the overall source of the costs.

"This works out to about just under $700,000. But then we've already bought gravel and got it crushed. That adds another $5.00 a cubic yard. So, there's another $200,000. We spend a million dollars plus on our roads. Put it that way. This is just for the hauling of the gravel. We've got a stockpile, and then they haul from that stockpile to wherever we want it on the roads in the municipality, and this is for two years. So, when I say that amount, it's per year. Taking care of our roads is the bigger part of our budget."
