Residents of Sidney gathered together this past Sunday for a community barbecue. Heartland Recreation Director at MacGregor and North Norfolk Karla Gurke was there, and provided some play equipment for the kids. Gurke shares how she got involved.

Karla Gurke"Pearl had asked us, because Heartland does all the rec stuff for North Norfolk. And when they said they'd love to have children's activities out here, we had the bouncy castle anyway for yesterday for the MacGregor Fair. So, why not use it today. So, we brought it out. My son's doing facepainting, and just trying to do some fun stuff for the kids."

The castle was set up inside the former curling rink space behind the community hall.

President of Sidney Community Centre Pearl Wieler describes the event.

Pearl Wieler"I don't' know what we should call it. Pre-Canada Day, or just a Sidney fun day. I would say it's maybe even close to double last year. We must have about 150 people or a little bit more. We have our raffle that we have every year. We have three prizes that go toward fundraising for the Community Centre. We're putting in new toilets and windows this year."

Wieler says next year will be bigger and better, celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary, and says something special's being planned that's a secret for the time being.
